Admatha II, 2006

Winner of the 2006 Ergon Energy Central Queensland Art Award

About This Project

“Admatha II” is a dynamic and extremely evocative work. It suggests a transformative state between reality and fantasy. The colour red is symbolic of fear, passion and menace. The work is imbued with ambiguity and uncertainty. It is a highly complex composition incorporating a range of visual and technical ploys. “Admatha II” is both painting and drawing. For all its complexity, it is a well-balanced and unified work. It is an image that simultaneously attracts and repels. It brings to mind the chaos and confusion of contemporary everyday life both on a personal level and within communities.”
